Piazza Armerina – Mosaics in Sicily

Snake-leg guy ...

The town of Piazza Armerina is famous for Villa Romana del Casale, a ruined villa with some of the best preserved roman mosaics.

We had a heck of a time getting to Piazza Armerina – pretty much every way we tried involved some sort of closed road. After two hours of driving, we weren’t even sure if it was going to be worth continuing to look for it.

The mosaics were pretty impressive – but there wasn’t much in the way of signage or explanation of anything. I looked up some explanations on my phone, which helped. But mostly it was just some really impressive mosaics … which were good for a quick walkthrough – but I wish it hadn’t taken us so long to find the place!

We left Piazza Armerina when (once again) it started to rain on us.
