War in France – American Cemetary

View of the Sea from the Cemetary

The American Cemetary in Normandy is set in a beautiful spot overlooking the sea – right among the DDay battle sites.

As it happened, we were visiting Normany just before the anniversary of D-Day. So there were plenty of veterans, and ceremonies, and donated flowers.

Donated flowers, and a reflecting pool.

It was absolutely humbling to see the number of gravestones lined up in this cemetary, and it certainly gave some perspective as to the sheer numbers of soldiers who gave their lives to give the Allies an entry into mainland Europe.
