Another in the continuing series of learning about the ‘intangibles’ of another culture.
Ryan: Do you know if our air conditioning unit does heat too?
Kate: In apartment buildings like this, in Italy, the heating is usually centralized. And every city in Italy chooses a date at which point they are allowed to turn on the heat. At that point, the building will turn the heat on for several hours a day. Usually from around 8am to 8pm or so. In Rome, I think the date is November 15th.
Ryan: I feel like you’re making this up.
Kate: <laughing> I know, but I’m not.
Ryan: I don’t understand. So we can’t have heat for another month? Where are we living? Can we light a candle? I’m cold.
